A Gobble, Gobble Giveaway!

Yes, you read that correctly! I've decided to celebrate the holiday with a giveaway. I love Thanksgiving! In our home it's the one holiday where the guest list always changes. We have been blessed to have so many friends sit at our Thanksgiving table through the years. This year we will be hosting our son-in-law's parents, his two sisters and their families, along with our children and grandchildren.

It seems that no matter how many times I plan and re-plan (is that a word?) the menu in my head, I always serve the same things. For me, it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without dressing made from my mother's recipe. My daughter, Melanie, just has to have cherry pie. The first year my son-in-law spent Thanksgiving with us I felt sorry for him because he was away from his family, so I asked him to tell me the one dish he just couldn't live without at Thanksgiving. It was sweet potato casserole and it's been included in our holiday menu ever since.

So.......if you will leave a comment on this site telling me the one Thanksgiving dish you must have on your menu, I will include you in a random drawing to win this cute little apron made just for you. (If you have trouble leaving a comment, just sign in as "anonymous" and then sign your name on your comment.) This giveaway is open to residents of the 48 contiguous United States. One entry per person, please, and the deadline is midnight, Friday, Nov. 6th CST.
The winner will be announced on Sunday, Nov 8th. If the winner does not contact me by midnight, Weds., Nov. 11th, another winner will randomly be selected. Good luck!

  1. Just checking to see if this works...Googoo

  2. Only ONE dish we have to have?? We HAVE to have mashed potatoes made with at least a cup of butter, green beans cooked with bacon and onion, pecan pie, hot rolls (with even MORE butter), apple pie...the meat isn't that important to us really. Even the "new children" expect the spuds and taters each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mike and Chris demand the apple pie but more and more the other kids are eating it too and it's gone in one sitting (more's the pity...).

  4. This is an expected dish in our family.

    2 egg yolks
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 can mandarin oranges
    1/2 box orange jello
1/2 pint whipping cream (or 1 tub cool whip)
    1 Tablespoon flour
    1 can pineapple
    1/2 package small marsh mellows

Combine: egg yolks, flour, sugar, and juice from pineapples and oranges. About 1 1/2 cup juice in all. Cook until mixture thickens stirring constantly. Add jello and let cool. Pour cooked dressing over drained pineapples, oranges and marsh mellows. Fold in cream and chill. Serve (serves about 10).

  5. Have to have my mom's Pecan Pie! One day I will get that secret recipe!

  6. Homemade, from scratch crust, Old Fashioned Pecan Pie with my own "twist" extra pecan's layered on top.

  7. Umm Pumpkin pie anyone?? Love it! Has to be slathered in Cool Whip, and I like it served chilled!

(could not pass up a chance to win one of your homemade goodies! Can not wait until we feast!)

  8. It is so hard to choose just one, but it would have to be the dressing. It is my grandmother's recipe and I believe the secret is the cornbread recipe used - all made from scratch. Since we only have it during the holidays, everyone really looks forward to it. Then we could move on to desserts - no one makes them like my mother!
